American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg unit requiring an MD or compact RN license and prior med/surg background.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 32 beds, currently operating 20 due to staffing
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of no more than 5, with both RNs and LPNs on staff
• Patient population includes CP, CHF, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, ortho, detox, post-op surgical, and pediatric patients
• RNs are not required to titrate drips
• ICU monitor techs handle telemetry reading and fax strips to the unit for documentation
• Unit is supported by a House Supervisor who makes assignments; no charge nurse on shift
• 3 nurse aides per shift
• RT equipment on the unit includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow, with RT support available
• 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend required; night shift weekends fall Friday-Sunday
• Holiday coverage rotates with regular staff
• Floating required to assist other units as a tasker or extra support
• No call or standby requirement
• Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

• Active RN license (MD or compact) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Strong Med/Surg background required due to variety of patient types
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• ACLS and PALS recommended but not required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Unexpired copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Document telemetry readings faxed over from ICU monitor techs
• Assist other units when floated as needed
• 3-5 days of unit-specific orientation including manager review, tour, introductions, and policy discussion
• Additional training provided through education, pharmacy, and lab departments
• Scrubs of any color accepted except camo or orange
• Cancellation policy allows 2 shifts per 13-week assignment or 1 shift per 12-week assignment
• Local candidates not accepted; must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Returning travelers must have taken a 2-year break if previously employed at any WVU Medicine location
• Former permanent staff of this facility are not eligible to return as travelers
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than a year without taking a 2-year break
• All candidates interview directly with the unit manager
