American Traveler is hiring a night-shift RN for a Behavioral Health Unit requiring 1+ years of psych experience and comfort with physical restraints.

Details

• Acute care Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) with 18 beds, split between Intensive (IPU) and Progressive (PPU) sections
• Nurse:patient ratios are 2 RN + 1 tech per 10 beds on IPU and 1 RN + 1 tech per 8 beds on PPU
• Patient population age 19+ with diagnoses including detox, schizophrenia, suicidal/homicidal ideation, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and geri-psych
• No IVs or telemetry monitoring on this unit
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour night shifts, 6p-6a, with self-scheduling and potential for block scheduling
• Weekend requirement of every 3rd weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun) or weekender-only options available
• Low-census on-call with full shift off if not needed
• Floating is uncommon but may include 1:1 sitter duties

Requirements

• Active RN license (NE or compact) required
• Current certifications: BLS (AHA or ARC) and CPI
• Minimum 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience required
• Must be comfortable applying physical restraints (4-point and chair)
• BSN not required

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include rounding, medication administration, assessments, crisis intervention, diabetes management, basic wound care, breathing treatments/inhalers, and discharges
• Charge nurse present every shift and handles admissions
• Wound care RN available for consultation; respiratory therapy available for consults
• Unit orientation includes EPIC training with nurse manager followed by two shifts paired with a floor RN
• Navy blue scrubs required for RN staff
• Team includes a mix of senior and newer nurses in a supportive, close-knit environment
• Average length of stay is 6-7 days, though some patients may stay significantly longer depending on discharge barriers
• Radius rule of 45 miles applies
