American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN with 2+ years of recent experience and an active NC or compact RN license for a night shift position on a trauma-focused unit.

Details

• Med/Surg unit caring for patients with orthopedic trauma, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and neurological trauma
• Patient ratios of approximately 1:6-7
• Night shift, 4x12 hours (18:45-07:15)
• 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
• Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatients holding
• Assigned to work every other weekend
• Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication systems

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required within the last 5 years
• Epic documentation experience required
• Skills required: heparin drips, PCA, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, IV starts, dysrhythmia management, O2 protocol management, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions/PPE, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), nasal cannula, oral suctioning, tracheostomy management, and wound care
• Preferred skills include interpretation of dysrhythmias, pre/post hemodialysis management, drip management, CVA care, pre/post neurosurgery care, and spinal cord injury care
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references accepted at submission)

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for complex Med/Surg cases including trauma, neurological, and orthopedic conditions
• May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualties
• 12-hour unit orientation plus 16 hours of organizational education required
• Pre-start modules required (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online and annually
• Navy scrubs required
• RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate transportation
• First-time travelers welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying, with disclosure and facility approval required
• Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status, not both
