American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Oncology RN for a cancer specialty hospital, requiring 3+ years of inpatient oncology experience and current chemotherapy certification.

Details

• Inpatient Medical Surgical Oncology unit at a cancer specialty hospital
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (7:00 AM-7:30 PM)
• 1:3 patient ratio
• Care for patients with bladder, kidney, breast, colorectal, liver, lung, ovarian/uterine, pancreatic, and prostate cancers
• Uses Pyxis medication system
• Epic EMR documentation preferred
• SBAR communication method used
• Weekend shifts required
• Floating required

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required, in hand at time of consideration (EMSA not accepted)
• BSN required
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) required, in hand, no pending certifications accepted
• Minimum 3 years of Med/Surg Oncology experience required
• Required skills: administration of chemotherapy (oral, IV push, continuous infusion), body fluid handling post-chemo, management/disposal of cytotoxic spills, monitoring chemotherapy, recognizing/communicating abnormal lab values
• Experience administering antibiotics, antiemetics, antitumor agents, corticosteroids, hormonal therapy, and Neupogen required
• Post-surgical care experience required
• Flu vaccine or signed declination form required during flu season (October-March)

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to inpatient oncology patients across a range of cancer diagnoses
• Administer and monitor chemotherapy treatments via multiple routes
• Recognize and manage oncologic emergencies and treatment side effects
• Caribbean blue scrubs required (not provided)
• Preferred experience includes biotherapy, bone marrow transplant care, IV therapy/infusions, port access and management, oncologic emergency management, pain management, and care coordination
• Preferred experience with additional cancer types including brain, ENT, leukemia, lymphoma, melanoma, and multiple myeloma
• No restrictive rules on requested time off
