Description

American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for an ER Float Pool position based in the Colorado Springs zone, requiring multi-facility floating across a 60-mile radius and active CO or Compact RN licensure.

Details

• Acute care emergency department setting with no single home base facility — traveler floats across Zone 1, which includes multiple hospital EDs in the Colorado Springs, CO area and surrounding region (up to 60 miles from the city center)
• Zone 1 facilities span a range of trauma designations, primarily Trauma Level III and IV, with the majority being STEMI and stroke receiving centers
• Patient volume ranges from 40–168 patients per day depending on location
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4–5 based on acuity
• Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, DM, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, and HTN
• Standard ER medications and drips in use
• Charting is done in Epic
• RNs are required to independently read and interpret telemetry strips (no monitor techs on unit)
• RNs will be trained to perform Point of Care lab testing
• Respiratory therapy is available 24/7
• Tech support staff assist with unit secretary work, floor nursing duties, and triage
• 12-hour evening/night shifts, 3:00 PM – 3:00 AM
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance; leadership builds the schedule based on unit needs
• Scheduling follows one of two formats: assignment to a single facility for the week (with possible intra-facility floating), or Just-In-Time (JIT) assignment notified 1–2 hours before shift start

Requirements

• Active CO state RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Required certifications (all must be AHA and active; pending certifications not accepted): ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS
• Epic EMR experience
• Ability to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• Must reside at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center (the zone's city center) — a driver's license is required to verify permanent address
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• This is a true float pool position — travelers must be prepared to work at any facility within Zone 1 across a 60-mile radius from Colorado Springs, CO; securing housing that makes this feasible is the traveler's responsibility
• Zone 1 facilities include locations in Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Cañon City, CO
• Orientation is 2–3 days; clinicians must be physically present in-state during the orientation week, even if initial modules are completed remotely
• Scrub color requirement is navy blue
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• Holiday coverage is required on an every-other-holiday rotation
