American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position at a Level III Trauma facility, requiring at least 1 year of Med/Surg experience and Epic proficiency for a 13-week night shift assignment.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 38 beds in a Level III Trauma facility
• Diverse patient population including adults and possibly older teens, with diagnoses such as pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, respiratory illness, and surgical patients (orthopedic, general surgery, spinal, and urology)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 on both days and nights; must be able to manage a 1:6 ratio
• High patient turnover on days — discharges are followed by new admissions
• RNs are required to titrate drips; common titratable drips include Heparin, with set-rate drips including Bumex and Lasix
• Cardiac monitor techs available 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own telemetry strips
• Nursing supervisor available 24/7; charge nurses on days do not take patients, and the night charge nurse does not take patients
• Nurse aides available at a 1:8–1:10 ratio, capable of performing accuchecks and vital signs
• Respiratory therapy support available 24/7; RT equipment includes trachs, CPAP for OSA, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen (used infrequently)
• Charting performed in Epic (experience required)
• Schedule is 3x12-hour night shifts (6:00 PM–6:30 AM)
• Weekend and holiday coverage required on an as-needed basis
• No self-scheduling for travel RNs; blocked scheduling may be accommodated at times
• May be required to float to the IMCU

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC) required
• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg experience required
• Experience with Epic EMR required
• Must be able to manage a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Must have experience with bedside shift report
• Must have night shift experience (candidates should have experience on the shift for which they are being considered)
• BSN not required

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside more than 45 miles from the facility to qualify for this position
• Orientation consists of 1.5 shifts
• Low census/call cancellations may occur in lieu of a formal standby requirement
• Strong teamwork is expected, including assisting with call lights and collaborating effectively with CNAs
• Bedside shift report and proactive patient rounding are expected daily practices
• Navy blue scrubs required
