American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Oncology/Hematology position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center requiring APHON chemo certification and at least 1 year of pediatric hematology/oncology experience.

Details

• Inpatient pediatric hematology/oncology and adolescent medicine unit in an 885-bed, Level 1 Trauma academic medical center
• Patient population includes leukemia, solid tumors, sickle cell crisis, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, behavioral health overlay, and general adolescent medicine
• Unit has 16 beds on the PHO side and 16 beds on the adolescent medicine side, with an average of 14–32 patients per day
• RN-to-patient ratio is 1:3–4 on Peds Hematology/Oncology and 1:4–5 on Peds Adolescent Medicine
• CNA support ratio is 1:6–16
• EMR is Epic; experience is expected
• IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
• Bedside telemetry monitoring available; no telemetry tech on unit
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call requirement
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Floating required routinely between PHO and adolescent medicine units and other pediatric units within the children's hospital, excluding Peds ED

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification required; PALS preferred
• APHON chemotherapy certification required
• Minimum 1 year of experience in pediatric hematology/oncology acute care; most recent experience must be within the last year
• Proficiency in central line management and chemotherapy administration
• Strong pediatric assessment and critical thinking skills
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

• First-time travelers with a strong pediatric background will be considered
• Department support includes CNAs, a charge nurse, receptionist/HUC, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team for difficult peripheral access, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7)
• Resource nurse availability varies
• Orientation includes facility NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
• Schedules are set on a 6-week cycle
• Scrub color is royal blue; pediatric-appropriate scrub tops are permitted
• Unit culture is team-oriented, supportive, and family-centered with a high emphasis on professional growth, education, and safety
• Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
