American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with a minimum of 2 years of experience, strong ventilator and vasopressor management skills, and Epic proficiency for a night shift travel assignment.

Details

• ICU setting serving an adult to geriatric patient population
• High volume of ventilators and arterial lines (A-lines); experience with all potential ICU diagnoses expected
• Patient ratio of 1:2–3
• Titration of continuous infusions including sedation agents, pain medications, paralytic agents, and vasopressors is a core part of the role
• Agency RNs are not assigned CRRT patients unless competency on the Baxter PrisMax machine can be demonstrated
• Multidisciplinary morning rounds include the intensivist, bedside RN, PharmD, RRT, OT/PT, dietitian, case manager, and wound care
• Bedside RN is responsible for transporting patients (e.g., to CT), alongside a tech and RRT if the patient is on a ventilator
• Night shift NPs place central lines, vascaths, and A-lines; attend all codes; address ICU care issues; and admit patients from the ED to the ICU as first call before the intensivist
• EMR: Epic (required); also uses Pyxis
• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:00
• Every other weekend required
• Floating within facility and scope of practice may be required, including to a sister campus

Requirements

• Active GA or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficiency with ventilator management, A-line management, and titration of vasopressor and sedation drips required
• Required skills include: IV therapy, central line care/management, PICC line management, blood product administration, BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, HFNC, ABG interpretation, ETT/NT suctioning, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, 12-lead EKG/ECG, IV insulin protocols, infection prevention, and isolation precautions/PPE
• Preferred experience: Neuro ICU or Surgical ICU setting
• Two supervisory references (manager level or above; charge nurse references not accepted) are highly preferred for consideration

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Navy blue scrubs required
• RTO maximum of 7 days; RTO cannot be requested during the first week of the assignment
• Holiday coverage policy: if 1–2 major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work all of them and no holiday RTO may be requested; if 3 major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work 2, and one holiday RTO request may be reviewed for approval
• Major holidays include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
• Travelers must have been away from all facilities within this health system for a full year before returning as a travel nurse
• Local candidates are accepted
• No special scheduling requests, alternate shifts, or schedule changes are permitted — the posted shift is firm
• Full compliance with onboarding requirements is necessary to ensure an on-time start
