American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Tele unit at a Level 4 Trauma, Critical Access hospital, requiring at least 1 year of Med/Surg or Med/Surg Tele experience and night shift availability.

Details

• Acute care setting, Level 4 Trauma facility with Critical Access designation
• 24-bed inpatient Med/Tele unit with capacity for up to 10 observation and day surgery patients
• Common diagnoses include pneumonia, cellulitis, UTI, COPD, GU conditions, pacemaker management, sepsis, nursing home placements, and day surgical cases including orthopedic (hips and knees), cholecystectomies, appendectomies, and TURPS-CBI
• Small pediatric population present on unit; travelers will not be assigned pediatric patients unless they have prior pediatric experience or no other coverage option is available
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 5:1 on day shift, 6:1 at 11pm; team nursing with LPNs at a 2:7 ratio
• Telemetry monitoring is reviewed in the ICU daily; basic arrhythmia knowledge required with a physical monitor at the nurses' station
• RNs are not required to titrate drips
• No IV team on-site — RNs must be comfortable and proficient with IV starts
• Respiratory Therapy covers the entire hospital (not unit-dedicated); CPAP equipment available
• Hospitalist on-site until 6pm daily; telehealth coverage utilized after hours
• Charge nurse carries a patient assignment; travelers may be placed as relief charge nurse
• Nurse aides available on the unit
• EMR is currently Cerner, transitioning to Epic
• 13-week contract, night shift (7pm–7am), 12-hour shifts
• Self-scheduling is accommodated when possible; longer blocks of shifts (e.g., 6 in a row) are preferred over scattered scheduling
• Every other weekend rotation required (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
• On-call or standby assignments are possible
• Floating to like units and patients is required

Requirements

• Active MI RN license required by start date
• BLS certification (AHA) required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg or Med/Surg Tele experience in an acute care setting
• Critical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 hospital experience preferred
• Experience with TURPS-CBI procedures preferred
• Proficiency with IV starts required (no IV team on-site)
• Basic telemetry arrhythmia interpretation skills required
• 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of an 8-hour computer education day, followed by a 4-hour shadow shift, then a 12-hour orientation shift, with independent practice beginning on day 3
• Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 assigned holidays
• Solid, professional scrub colors required; no specific color mandated
