Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ED RN for a 13-week night shift contract at an off-campus emergency department in Washington State, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ER experience and a comprehensive certification package including TNCC and NRP.

Details

• Off-campus emergency department (OCED) setting with 10 ED beds and 7-10 hallway treatment spaces
• Assigned a primary OCED location with the expectation to float to other OCED sites as needed; primary site may change based on staffing needs
• Patient population spans neonates to geriatrics, with approximately 25% pediatric cases; case types include cardiac, neuro, GI, respiratory, psych, walk-in traumas, and GSWs
• Patient ratio of 1:4; fast track team nurse ratio of 1:6
• RNs are responsible for managing ventilators and BiPAP as there are no respiratory therapists onsite
• RNs mix their own medications under remote pharmacy supervision via video conference
• 12-hour night shifts; shift start times vary and are assigned from an existing open FTE position rather than a guaranteed block schedule
• Weekend rotation attempted every other weekend (negotiable; not guaranteed)
• 6-week scheduling cycles
• Charting via Epic; equipment includes Alaris pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing
• Travelers may be called before their shift if mid-shift floating to another OCED is required; travel time is compensated

Requirements

• Active WA State RN license or compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIHSS, and TNCC
• Minimum 2 years of recent, hands-on ED experience (any trauma level)
• Strong IV skills, experience with chest tubes, central lines, and medication preparation/administration
• Telemetry competency exam must be completed and passed prior to start
• At least one supervisor-level reference (charge nurse, manager, director, or above) required; a second reference will be required prior to start

Additional Information

• Orientation includes hospital orientation, a full day with the OCED unit educator, an 8-hour respiratory/ventilator class (BiPAP training provided), and a full day on the unit
• RNs are expected to take charge assignments; facility will provide charge training if needed
• Support staff includes LPNs who assist with low-acuity assignments, procedures, and medication administration; a charge nurse carries a partial patient assignment and is free in the afternoon to float and provide breaks; EST/phlebotomy staff assist with blood draws
